professional statement

For as long as I can remember, writing and technology have been passions of mine. Technical writing allows me to bring these two passions together. I have long been interested in working in a journalistic atmosphere, utilizing blogs and podcasting to bring information to the general public.

I am versed in HTML, XHTML, and CSS. I personally designed and implemented my own personal website, which contains a blog, photography, and writing. I also frequently work with different software packages, like InDesign, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver.

I currently study at Purdue University, working toward a degree in Professional Writing. My minor is in Computer and Information Technology, with courses in programming, web design, computer architecture, and project/knowledge management. As a computer lab assistant for Purdue, I quickly earned respect through my exemplary job performance. I am in charge of as many as 10 labs. I have even been encouraged to take a promotion as a senior lab assistant.

As an intern with the Tippecanoe County Historical Association, I am in charge of developing, creating, and maintaining a podcasting website with the purpose of drawing in a younger audience. I lead of a small group of people, who research and write historical podcasts. It is a project that allows me to hone my leadership skills while still geared toward my interests and skill set.

Media is increasingly portable. I have seen the rise of blogging as well as podcasting that can often become a substitute for television. It is my hope that I can one day work as a writer or commentator in this realm, helping to provide a web-based interface for up-to-date news, information, and entertainment in technology.
